A man and his son allegedly attacked another driver after their vehicles were involved in a car accident on East County Road in Valley Center.

At approximately 6:40pm, Thursday, authorities received a report about an assault with a deadly weapon. When deputies arrived, they found gun shell casings in the car wreckage from the crash, said San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The father, 49, was arrested for allegedly firing a semi-automatic weapon at the scene. There were no injuries.

Prior to the gunshots, the son attacked the other driver involved in the crash with a metal pipe, sheriff's officials said. The motorist was not injured and declined medical attention.

The son was detained and taken to the hospital for a pre-existing medical problem. The investigation is still ongoing.
