A man was killed in a truck accident when his pickup crashed through a guardrail on the San Diego Freeway in Long Beach. His truck went over the side and slammed into a tree, said authorities.

The crash happened at Santa Fe Avenue at approximately 10:30 Monday evening, said a California Highway Patrol Officer.

The vehicle hit a guard rail and flew off the side of the freeway into ice plants before he plunged head-on into a tree. The driver was ejected from the vehicle said a Long Beach Fire Department spokesman.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:21, his name has not been immediately release.
